How to install Kodi onto an Amazon FireTV Device

Overview

In this tutorial, I will show you how to install the software application Kodi onto your Amazon FireTV device. The following default FireTV software settings need to be changed before you can begin this process.

  • Go to Settings
  • Select Device
  • Select Developer Options
  • Select ADB debugging – This will turn it On
  • Select Apps from Unknown Sources – Select Turn On

I also recommend that you check your FireTV device for any software updates that may be available from Amazon before you begin this process.

PreRequisites

For this tutorial you will need the following…

<strong>01</strong>Hardware
In this tutorial there are two hardware items that are key. First, you will need a FireTV device. Take a moment if you have not already done so and connect the device to your television. Secondly, you will need a computer that is connected to the same wireless SSID that your FireTV device is connected to.
<strong>02</strong>Software
As with anything regarding hardware, we must also incorporate software for functionality. In this tutorial you will need two software titles to complete this process. The first software title that you will need is adbLink. adbLink allows you to remote into your FireTV device. The second software title that you will need will be the current Kodi release which will be installed onto your FireTV device.

01 Blank adbLink

Once you have successfully installed adbLink and have launched the program, you will see that it is blank. Please reference the image to the left for verification.

02 New Device Profile

Now that adbLink has been successfully installed and you have launched it, you will need to create a profile for your FireTV device. To do this, click on the NEW button as shown in the image to the right.

03 Profile Configuration

This section of adbLink is where you will create your device profiles. The number of profiles that you need to create depends on how many FireTV device you want to install the Kodi software onto.

04 New Device Profile

You will be using the default settings for your Device Profile(s). You only need to give your device(s) a Description and enter the IP that the FireTV device is using to connect to your wireless network in the IP Address field.

After you have entered the required information into the correct fields, click the Save button to save your new profile.

05 Device Selection

Now that you have your profile(s) created and have closed the configuration window, you now need to select the device that you will be installing Kodi onto from the Select Device drop-down.

06 Connect To Device

Now that you have selected the device profile that you are going to install Kodi onto, click on the Connect button.

07 Device Connected

You have successfully connected to the device that you are going to install Kodi onto when you see the Device Profile name listed under the Connected devices section and IP Connection shown under the Connect status section.

08 Install APK

Now that you have connected to your device, your next step is to install the Kodi software. Click the Install APK button.

09 Select APK File

When you click on the Install APK button a new dialog will open. Browse to the location where you saved the downloaded Kodi APK file and select it. Once you have selected the APK file, click Open.

10 Confirmation

After pressing Open in the previous step, the File Selection window will close and you will be prompted to confirm your selection. Select the Yes button to begin the installation.

11 Installation Progress

Kodi is now being installed onto your FireTV device. You should now see the Device Profile Name & Install APK in the Running Jobs section. You can track the progress of the installation by the green progress bar located in the lower right of the adbLink window.

12 Installation Complete

When the Kodi installation has completed successfully, you will see a confirmation window as shown in the screenshot tot he right. Simply click on the Ok button to close the prompt.

13 Disconnect

You have now successfully installed the Kodi application onto your FireTV device. Click the Disconnect button on the adbLink program to disconnect from the device and close the adbLink software.
